Special District Centre
Peter S had been on a visit to Kensington with representatives of B & H council plus other traders groups to discover what an SDC was. Whilst Kensington have achieved a great deal of background information and trading surveys they are still some way from defining and the implementing what will become an SDC. The concept is much more than simply protecting an area of small retailers from bigger chains and they have produced over 50 changes/ideas of which Kensington council has adopted all but three. Brighton Council are very interested in following progress and a meeting of the LDF has been called to discuss how and if Brighton could adopt similar strategies to protect North Laine and the Lanes. Sharon has Peter’s report and relevant documents and reports from Kensington. Sharon told those present that we will be following progress and lobbying.
