Treasurer’s report
David Hall reported that we have approx £6,000 in hand. ( £2,520 from this years subs). We do have some outstanding invoices for the website and printing expenses.

Sustainable Bag project
Eddie Start showed us samples of the many different types of bags he has been researching. We discussed the costs and how ethical the companies were that we considering. Those present selected two bags and asked Eddie to get firm quotes for artwork and printing. Ideas for the artwork will be on the website from 10th May – comments please.

Sharon stressed how important it was for us to move forward and produce the bags as the AGM had agreed the expenditure and she passed around an article from the Mirror stating that one small town had already banned plastic carriers.

Pedestrianisation
Peter had arranged a meeting with B & H Stuart Croucher for 10am on the 10th May at Off Beat to review the weekend closures of Sydney St and Gardner St after the discussion at our AGM. Minutes of the meeting;
  • Both parties agreed that the present times and arrangements were working well.
  • There were still cars reversing dangerously into the middle of Sydney St. during closures.
  • NCP appeared to be somewhat erratic in booking cars parking in the closed areas, Stuart agreed to look into this and report back.
  • Stuart felt that the traders had too much street furniture obstructing the pedestrian flow and making it difficult for disabled people or pushchair users.
  • NLCA - Sharon attended the NLCA A.G.M. at Brighthelm on 16th April.
  • Those present agreed to invite our new councillor Ian Davey to attend further meetings.
  • Stuart suggested that we might need the council to arrange for traffic flow monitoring before we looked into extending the closure days as any changes would affect the whole of the traffic flow in NL.
  • Both NLTA and Stuart felt that we need to start the discussion of further closures in NLTA newsletters to start a debate off within the traders. Sharon agreed to discuss the matter at the next members meeting.

    Street Reps
We welcomed Patrice of In House Space to the meeting and had a discussion on who we could approach to become street reps in Sydney St and Kensington Gardens. Sharon and Peter to follow up.

NL Website

Brian P reports all well with hits running at 5,000+ per week. We still need more input and photo’s from members. Tim Hobbs, Workshop Pottery, has agreed to take some photo’s of the festival for the site.

A.O.B.
  • Cllr Sue Paskins was stepping down as councillor for NL at this weeks election. Those present asked Peter to convey our thanks and appreciation to her.
  • Sussex Police are offering free security signs for shops with there logo on.

  • Lynda and Philippa asked for more cleaning and bigger bins in Kensington Gdns. Peter to contact Tim Moore of City Clean.
  • Convention map - Barry Clarke had been in touch to ask if we would repeat our ad in the next map. Those present decided that as we were looking to spend up to £1,000 on the bags we would so no this time.
  • Tourist Information Centre – Sharon felt that the new centre was an improvement but a bit “dull” from the outside. Peter to ask if we can put an NL display in one of the windows.
