  Points of Discussion
  • 100% NL bags
Eddie S reported on the progress of the bags and told us we have approx 500 left to sell. They have been well received and Peter has given details of the bags and suppliers to many other associations and local/national councils.
  • Southern Water
Southern Water had approached Peter to start the Kensington Gardens mains renewal a year early. Peter asked them to discuss dates with the KG traders. Informal talks took place on 29th January and a formal meeting took place at the White Rabbit pub on the 4th of February. Work to start 11th February and stop during half term.
  • Brighton Visitor Magazine
Currently doing advertorials on NL shops. March edition will feature Trafalgar Street.
  • Brighton Scene Magazine
April edition will feature NL - Peter has supplied background information.
  • Beacon Half Marathon
Sunday 17th February. Runs through NL - starts at the seafront at 9.30 travels up London Rd and progresses through Trafalgar Street, Kemp Street, Queens Gardens, North Road, Jubilee Street and New Road. Rolling road closures until approx 11.30. www.beaconhalf.org.uk
  • Bridge works
Bridge works start under the station undercroft in mid February to widen the footpath and lay a contra flow cycle lane. Road closures are expected from mid March until early May.
  • Fireco Fire Assessment
They have produced a helpful fire assessment guide for the traders section of the website. Sharon to agree to accept their conditions and copyright and Brian to install on website.
  • Guest Speaker for AGM
Peter was asked by street reps to ask someone from Business Link to speak at the AGM. Jonathon Love, local area advisor has confirmed.
  • North Street meeting
David S reported on a meeting that took place in December with B & H Council about safety changes in North Street. There will be an exhibition of options at the Chapel Royal from the 3rd to 13th March.
  • 2007 NLTA accounts
David H has produced 2007 accounts which will be available at the AGM. David will take over posting receipts and membership stickers from Andrew B. Andrew was thanked for all his work and support.
  • Special District Centres
Sharon and Peter have been invited to attend a trip to Portobello with B & H Council to assess if SDC status might help protect NL.

    AGM and Committee discussion

Peter Stocker explained that he was closing his shop shortly and would be working from a studio at home. He will therefore not be able to stand as secretary at the AGM.
Points arising from the following discussion included:
  • Sharon T will stand as Chair but asked Street reps to help with the day to day enquiries and to occasionally attend meetings and events for the NLTA.
  • David H will stand as Treasurer, keep accounts and issue receipts and stickers.
  • We will ensure that the website carries updated information for traders and to ask Brian P to look into creating some type of interactive “forum” for traders to share information.
  • Peter to discuss with Colourfast costs for production of newsletters and direct delivery to relevant street reps. Steve the manager has agreed to this at no extra cost.
  • The committee asked Peter to consider being retained for a fee of £100 per month by the NLTA after his departure to handle enquiries, newsletter production, website articles and some PR. Peter thanked the committee and agreed to a trial six month period.

The meeting ended at 7.40 when Sharon thanked reps for attending.
