Treasurer’s report
The Treasurer was unable to attend however, approximately £4,000 in the bank and a few outstanding bills, such as the next Visitmap, and payment to Brian for the November monthly updating of the website.

Web update
Brian reported that 3,900 hits were received over the previous week, and that hits had doubled in the last month. Reciprocal links established between NLTA and Visit Brighton. Future plans include more FAQ’s with input from Humberts and Fludes. Passwords for the traders pages will be given in January. Christmas visuals have been added. Sharon would like to see a video clip added next year. Lighthouse may be contacted or possibly a competition. PS and ST gave an official thank you to Brian for his work in establishing and enhancing this site.

Police report - John Sharman / PCSO
John has been working in the North Laine on and off since PCSO’s were introduced. He dealt with 4 illegal traders in the city centre last month and there will be future clamp downs. Also BIDS security officers pass intelligence on to the police for offences they are not empowered to handle, and through the Business Crime Reduction radio network. An e-mail address can be provided for NLTA.

Newsletter
Southern Water keen to sponsor the next newsletter and would like to include contact telephone numbers for SW during the pipe replacement work.

      A.O.B.
  • Business Link - Mark Lindsay is offering courses at discounted prices or for free.
Npower - Free energy efficiency surveys on offer - cards distributed.
  • A Boards - Causing some problems at the north end of Kensington Gardens.
Action: Maddy to contact a man who can help and e-mail Peter.
John (PCSO) will find out police stance on licensed A Boards.
  • Bids Discussion - The lights switch on was well received. No Bid Board members were present at the last, or today’s meeting. There was some uncertainty regarding marketing proposals as a result – Maddy to help by contacting Soozie Campbell.

      Review of the Past Year
  • What should NLTA be doing more of? It was felt that NLTA had money available to spend and needed projects for next year.
A discussion about PR, editorial, the cost of advertising, and closer links with Visit Brighton followed, capitalising on the conference trade (the Shopping and Eating Out Guide goes to over 60,000 delegates).
Action: Invite Richard Pearson (VCB) to a future meeting.
  • Festival month (May) is not generally a good month for retail - how can we change that.
  • City College is not working particularly closely with NLTA - Peter to try to find projects we can work together with.
  • A quieter 2006 may be due to online selling.

James was thanked for attending the meeting. He is established in Tunbridge Wells as a dispensing optician and would like to trade in the North Laine.
The meeting officially ended at 7.45 pm when Sharon and Peter thanked those present for attending and asked for help finishing the wine.
