Street reps meeting at Off Beat Coffee Bar
on Tuesday 9th June 2009
.

Apologies:
Colin Grainger, Eddie Start and Geoff Ellis.
Meetings Attended
  • NLCA A.G.M. at Brighthelm on 20th April.
  • B & H Council car parks officer Austin Hunter talked to Peter, (6th April), re our request for discounted parking or free evening parking in London Road. Declined due to large enhancement costs at the car park.
  • NCP - Sharon and Peter met with Lesley Collins and have been offered a 40% reduction scheme for NLTA members in the North Road car park from 24th June to 30th August. Peter to distribute the vouchers and flyers to members around 24th.NCP have also offered £27 per week parking, (usually £56) to our members! Street reps voted to approve the scheme and ask for a sign from Church Street to North Road.
  • Southern Water - On going works proceeding ahead of schedule and due to be completed early. (the large hole in Bond Street is BT who gave us no warning – not Southern Water as a couple of people thought!).
NLTA Coordinator
Peter told the meeting that he and his family will be moving to Buckinghamshire in September and asked for a volunteer to take over the role. Donna agreed to do the work on a trial basis with Sharon working with her on newsletters and members mail shots. Geoff Ellis has offered to take back the rent register and update it. He has asked for help talking to traders and collecting info. New software is needed and those present voted to buy it. David Sewell offered help where it is needed although he is very busy from April to September.
NLTA Website
Brian is working on the new website template and will send out sample pages to street reps soon. Total cost will be approximately £1250 and he will bill for the work in £250 instalments which those present agreed. Peter reminded everyone that we made a decision we were going to stop producing printed newsletters eventually anyway and suggested that Brian could be asked to set up “virtual Newsletter” mail groups for the members.
NLTA Newsletter
Next issue, (July) to be the last printed edition. Articles to include ad for summer meeting at Komedia, Southern Water update, Peter leaving and call for volunteers to be street reps.
Map Project
Sharon showed the working design of the new map and reps discussed what information should be included on the map. Sharon and Peter to meet on 12th June to finalise ideas. Peter to send proof to all reps a.s.a.p.
Summer Meeting
Komedia was chosen as the venue by those present and Peter and Donna will liaise with Colin re availability. Suggestions for speakers welcome.
Any Other Business
  • Nancy Platts, (prospective Labour parliamentary candidate) has approached us about making Gardner Street closed to traffic from 10 till 5 all week. Donna was in favour but did not know if the majority of traders there were. Donna to meet Nancy.
  • Pat told us that Counter Terrorism training is being offered by Sussex Police at the Brighton centre on the 14th and 16th of July. For more details or to reserve a place contact Victoria.morris@sussex.pnn.police.uk.
The meeting ended at 7.05 when the street reps went to support Komedia at the launch of their summer program. Sharon thanked everyone for attending.
