Minutes of the Street Reps meeting at 6pm
on the 10th March 2009 at Off Beat

Apologies:
David Hall, Colin Grainger, Pat Mernagh.
We chose not to have a formal agenda and the following items were discussed.
  • B & H Childrens awards - PJ Aldred is organising the event for the council at the Thistle on the 4th of April. NLTA are going to supply 80 NL bags free which Steve P will overprint with the event details. Traders are asked to donate other goods suitable for giving to the winners. (PJ’s phone No: 818731 ).
  • City in Bloom - Donna is attending meetings and passed on info re the new hanging basket suppliers. Order forms to follow.
  • Team Waste / Waste Tech - David S and Sharon reported problems of escalating bills and costs over waste collection. Steve thought that the two companies were now both owned by PHS.
  • B & H Tourist info reports - Peter pointed out that we had not received copies of articles from them lately. Peter to investigate why.
  • Business Lifebelt - We have e-mailed details to members of these events for retailers and Rob Dawson ( B & H council) has also distributed leaflets.
  • Bank of Scotland Merchant Services - Sharon and Peter have been in discussion with BOS and believe that the new deal will be better for our members and recommend accepting it.
We then went on to discuss details of the agenda for the AGM on the 24th March.
  • Elections - Both Sharon and David are prepared to stand again if the members so wish. Peter has been paid £100 per month for his duties since closing his shop, ( six months) and those present proposed to ask him to stay for a further 6 months subject to members agreeing. Street reps to remain the same. (Peter to check with Colin G).
  • Fee’s - Those present agreed to propose the fees are set at one £30 level from next January.
A vote will be taken at the AGM.
  • Website - Those present agreed to updating the website. Brian will begin shortly and will work through sections of the site, billing as appropriate. The street reps committee will oversee costs and content.
  • Rent Register - Peter has collated the data we have collected and Eddie will help sort this for the new data base. Sharon has started work on the updated information.
  • Map / Poster - To celebrate the 20th anniversary of NLTA Sharon proposed to launch an iconic map – designed in North Laine and containing details of members businesses to be given away. Those present agreed and details will be given to the AGM.
  • Parking costs - Reps present all felt that the NLTA should challenge the high costs of parking in North Laine/Brighton especially in this recession and see if we can do some deals.
The meeting ended at 7.30 and Sharon thanked everyone for coming.
