The new North Laine website will be launched to members and invited media guests on Thursday 5th of October at the Jubilee library. Brian Pedley our designer has been working hard and produced an excellent site that works well for shoppers and traders.

The centre of this issue shows the basic layout of the site and gives members tips on how to make the best use of their personal webpage. Send your details now!

BID board begins work
The first meeting of the elected BID board happened in July and their first task was to choose a Christmas lights provider for this years lights. They saw four presentations and one company stood out from the rest and has now been awarded the contract. The board are very excited about the proposed lights which have been designed to fit into the four North Laine streets in the BID area. The reps on the board for the North Laine area are; Grenville Nation, Ananada in Bond Street, Andrew Fisher, Pokeno pies in Gardner Street and Ed Birch, one40five store in Sydney Street. The next task of the board will be to discuss the appointment of a PR company to represent the BID area.
Weekend Pedestrianisation
North Laine councillor, Sue Paskins formally closed Sydney Street and Gardner Street for us on Sunday 30th of July to start off the new weekend closure of these streets. First impressions from members are that the closures are very successful and certainly the feedback from many customers has been very positive!
Southern Water and North Laine
Southern Water will continue with the on-going works in Church street and Gloucester road but have no plans at present to work in any other North Laine streets. After a meeting Southern Water and Brighton & Hove council, Soozie Campbell and Peter Stocker persuaded them not to start the next phase of the works in North street until the new year. (they had wanted to start in October and work over Christmas!)
Train to gain!
Business link have changed their existing skills advice service and it will now be called “train to gain”. The new free service offers impartial advice to help your business to identify the type of training that your company could benefit from. It then finds the appropriate provider locally and seeks access to funding for partial, or in some cases the whole cost of the training. To find out more call 0845 7512288 or e-mail info@traintogainse.co.uk.
