This years Christmas lights will have a celebrity switch on at 6pm on Thursday 16th November at a glittering event at the Clock tower. Children’s TV presenter Holly Willoughby will be our celebrity – why not come along and join in the fun

After the switch on, the princess, reindeer and elves will proceed down North Street, turn into North Laine at Bond Street, carry on along Gardner Street, Kensington Gardens and end up in Sydney Street. This years lights will be spectacular and have been designed by the same team that light up the Eiffel Tower in Paris! They will then retrace their steps to cross North Street and enter the Lanes.

Many North Laine shops will open that evening for the first of our Thursday late night shopping extravaganzas. As well as the procession we have invited carol singers and other street entertainers to make your Christmas shopping fun and we are sure that you will find an amazing array of exciting gifts in our unique North Laine shops.

Remember many shops in North Laine will be open late every Thursday evening right up to Christmas.

North Laine Brighton HomepageNorth Laine Brighton launches new website! - 5th October 2006
On Thursday 5th October, Brighton’s North Laine Traders Association launched their new web site at the award winning Jubilee Library. 80 invited guests including Brighton M.P. David Lepper watched as Deputy Mayor Bob Carden launched the site with a click of a mouse. The website www.northlaine.co.uk enables customers and visitors to browse the famous North Laine area of Brighton and see the cosmopolitan mix of unusual, often unique and sometimes downright wacky shops and restaurants. From the comfort of their own home visitors and customers can explore the 400+ unique independent retailers that make up North Laine.

“The website: www.northlaine.co.uk is easy to navigate and provides potential visitors and shoppers with an informative and colourful description of each of the streets, in addition to comprehensive searches for individual shops based on name, category or street. The website has cleverly catered for all visitors arriving into or leaving Brighton by train, car, bus or taxi by providing directions, a brief overview of services provided, and contact details for the relevant transport companies and car park providers”.
Brighton City Centre Business Forum

“Once again traders in the North Laine are taking the initiative with a new way to help raise the profile of the area as a place in which to shop and relax, and boost their own enterprises. This website is another important step to help the mainly small independent businesses in this lively and unique part of the city.”
David Lepper M.P.

The website was designed by local designer Brian Pedley who has spent the summer collating and photographing North Laine. We believe Brian has created a brilliant, informative, customer friendly site, made easy to navigate by using the interactive map.

As a group of small independent retailers we obviously need your support to let people know that we have the best selection of small shops on the south coast! With e-commerce growing at such a large rate this is the first step towards small traders competing with the large multiples and often offering a better service.

North Laine Website Launch Date Announced
The new North Laine website will be launched to members and invited media guests on Thursday 5th of October at the Jubilee library in Brighton. Brian Pedley our designer has been working hard and produced an excellent site that works well for shoppers and traders.

Most of the site will go “live” in early September and everything will be in place for the October launch date. The NLTA plan to add new features such as a traders “blog” and introduce seasonal information such as Christmas late night shopping events.
